Where was it made?

What you might want to know before you buy an Appliance.
Open up a shiny new appliance these day's and it may or may not surprise you
to find out that most of the parts (inside) are not  made in the USA !!!  Up until
the turn of the millennium you could purchase American made Kenmore,
Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, and other brands that were built fairly standard from
year to year with few design or part changes. They were big and ugly, but they
were engineered and built to last 50 years. Would it surprise you to find out that
a new Maytag is Made in China? The old automatic appliances (The Good
Stuff) dated back to the 1950's. Thing's have changed. Those good old quality
appliances that just kept running forever, made in the USA? Some of them are
    still around.
While there were thousands of different parts for a variety of Makes and
Models, most of the fast moving repair parts were made to fit in a variety of
equipment with relatively few design changes. What's going ON???

PARTS and SERVICE - ONLINE and LOCAL
Large part warehouses in Phoenix and other major city's stock parts that are needed for appliances. Even with
thousands of  "fast moving parts" on the shelves in Phoenix, many parts have to be factory ordered. It's not uncommon
for them to be discontinued.  Why? Parts are just like any other product inventory. If the faster moving parts do not move
fast enough on a part suppliers local shelves, they have to be special ordered from the manufacturer
.
Parts for Sears Appliances? Sears is a retailer... they have products labeled that say Sears or Kenmore on the
outside... What's inside? The product under the label is usually a Whirlpool product (sometimes GE or Frigidare) made
out of Whirlpool parts... but not alway's.  Very few Sears products are proprietory... Cosco Kirkland brand is another
example of a retailers label for many Whirlpool manufactured products. You can get fast, affordable local service on
most appliance products, especially Whirlpool, GE, Maytag and other popular brands without calling the factory. Call the
factory if you don't know where to shop, if you have plenty of time to wait in line and plenty of money to spend. In many
cases, it's the best way to spend more than the machine is probably worth. That's why they often offer to sell you a new
machine with the incentive of a discount coupon for the money you spent on the service call.

Appliances you see when you are shopping at a retail location are usually just display items for sales purposes. They're
not usually the items that are actually sold and delivered. Those are ordered and shipped into town from larger out of
town shipping warehouses. You can usually purchase most items
on the internet for less than locally stocked inventory. It
saves the host company the cost of showroom space. It all moves through the on-time supply chain daily anyway. Sales,
manufacturing, shipping, delivery and installation... Each step along the way is billed and handled by various contractual
agents. Nothing in the process will actually stand in one place longer than the products that are in a showroom.

The process is constantly moving from the coast (LA) to Phoenix, and to other major shipping centers where they are
temporarily standing as the orders come in. A product that does not sell or move through these circuits will take up
valuable warehouse and/or retail space. It is not uncommon to find a supply of these products or parts discontinued or
unavailable. Many appliance products are standard with slight variations that create different makes and models.
Whirlpool is the largest manufacturer of appliances in the  US. Whirlpool manufactured appliances can be labeled with
many different brand names like Kenmore, Cosco Kirkland, Estate, Roper, Kitchenaide etc. Whirlpool recently acquired
Maytag. Other manufacturers include GE, LG, Bosch, and the list go's on.

Yesterday's fast moving parts
Parts for many older appliances have been replaced by consumers purchasing newer equipment, makes and models.

What do Appliance Sales People know?
No matter how old or new a product is, sooner or later everything breaks and needs repair. Electrical Repairs are as
likely to happen while an appliance is under warranty as it is on an older one. When your appliance goes down, how long
will you have to live without it until it can be fixed? How much time and trouble will it cause you and the people who are
hired to do the work for you?  Will the warranty actually cover the whole repair? How expensive is it to get the problem
fixed?

Today the Appliance Service and Repair business can be much more complicated than it used to be. WHY? Because
appliances and parts are built and shipped from Mexico, China, Korea, France, Germany, Italy and other county's all
over the world. Today it takes more than just average skill, talent, backup and special equipment to be competent to
service and repair this equipment.  An experience repair tech needs to be up-to-date with the information that it takes to
repair an appliance. A good tech can tell you more about what you've purchased than an average appliance sales
person knows. Sales people get paid to sell and they pass the problems on to the people out back to solve. A
repairman is paid to make it work. Sales people do not have to make the stuff work. They do not have to find the parts.
They don't live with the down time or the problems you experience when product they sold you breaks down. They can't
tell you what kind of problems are common to a particular product or what it may cost to get things working for you again.
They pass it on to the grumpy guys with the dirty fingernails out back in the service department.

Same day Service? Free/or no service charge w/repair?
In  many cases we can and do complete same day service and repair calls, even on an LG (especially, if you forgot to
plug it into the wall socket) but same day service does not necessarily mean a completed same day repair, . There's no
company who stocks every part that may be needed and nobody can afford to drive out to your house to repair
appliances for free. There are no magic wands used to fix appliances. It takes time, gas, a wage for labor, parts and
experience to repair appliances. We don't disguise these expenses in a repair estimate, nor do we make same day or
next day promises that we can't keep. We can promise great local service and attention... and... you won't be fattening a
large corporations foreign multi-million dollar investment portfolio with your hard earned money.

Online IT
Crandall's Appliance was one of the first company's to receive active online emailed dispatches vs telephoned faxed
dispatches and phone authorization for repairs dispatched from major home service contractors such as AHS and other
home warranty companies. We were one of the first companies using the internet for repair authorization and billing via
the internet too. The internet saved valuable 8:00-5:00 tech time in the field. Todays internet is not just a convenience
that saves time and money for a company, it's good for the people we serve too..

Our mobile dispatched service, combined with active appliance experience and modern mechanical, electrical and
digital knowledge is as good as it gets.

Who fixed the LG oven in Cortes Junction?  We did...  LG - You've
seen the TV commercials. Lifes Good when it's new (and it's running)
LG is proprietary equipment, or in other words, you have to deal with LG warranty
and non warranty part replacement problems long distance, on hold, on the
phone, take a number. It's not easy to get parts for LG from LG and it's not fast
either. Same day, next day service? Maybe - Same day, next day repair?
LG part supply lines do not go through a regular parts supplier with experienced
regular part supply people. We don't know of any Northern Arizona Appliance
repair techs anxious to work, pay their overhead, put gas in their tanks and eat a
bowl of rice once a day in order to fix LG products that are sold here in Northern
AZ. Consider the hassle it takes to locate, buy parts and provide service for a
warranty reimbursement check from LG or for that matter, any other big
Corporation. Too much policy, too much red tape, too much protocol. We're
picking on LG, but they're not the worst. Satisfaction and responsive local service
from most Corporate Giants (like Sears or GE ) doesn't get much better. Many
customers pay out of pocket to get service on machines when they break down
and the landfills are full of them. Sure, there are other way's to handle the
problems, like spend a fortune on a team of lawyers to litigate with a Corporate
legal team. (That won't get your pizza warmed up, or keep your 6 pack cold in the
    meantime)
The new LG oven in Cordes Junction had a faulty Oven Sensor. So we called and
ordered an oven sensor for it from the digital LG manual. What arrived in the mail from
LG two weeks later was a high limit thermostat. Thanks LG but, no thanks. We finally
determined that the oven was basically a GE oven and we replaced the sensor with a
standard GE oven sensor. LIFES GOOD, until the next LG quits running.

Appliances, like parts are moving constantly moving through the supply
chain too. Who can afford the retail (or wholesale) space to stock
anything that is not selling? If it doesn't sell it's discontinued.
Appliances are warehoused in Phoenix and ready for Warehouse to
customer delivery.

Are parts needed to repair most standard appliances stocked in big
Warehouses or available from the factory?... No, not even close. An
odd part on some obscure Chinese or Korean made appliance or other
odd brand or model older than 5-10 years old can (and usually does)
result in a part search that can take hours only to find that it's no
longer available. How important do you think it might be to purchase a
machine that can be serviced with standard FSP's?
Do you think a
salesman who can get a bigger profit from selling you the odd stuff is
going to discuss these facts with you? It happens everyday. They don't
care, they get paid to sell it. We get paid to fix it when it breaks..
