Posted: May 01,2007 by Don Crandall CHEAP About printers scanners and Ink Cartrage refills: I use to sell copy machines a long time ago. What we were selling in the '80's for 4K or more didn't work as well as the scanner, printers you can buy these day's for under a hundred bucks. I've had a cheap HP1210, 3 in one I bought from Staples in Prescott a couple years ago that I've been using trouble free for the past couple of years, I think I paid about a hundred bucks for it. The thing works great for copying and scanning and I even scan documents into (microsoft) Paint from it that I save to file into a JPG format that I email out or post to the web. (Fax? Who needs it?) If you learn to refill the Cartridges yourself?, you can save yourself a fortune. It's really not hard to do and once you've done it the first time... Life Is GREAT! Most of the time they sell the replacement cartridges for more than the cost of the printer... and they don't put as much ink in the new printer as you'll get in the replacement cartridges. The ink costs are apt to be more than the cost of the printer and that's where the catch is. Make sure you order the refill kit for the right printer and read the directions. If it's your first time? Just remember to use rubber gloves, change into something that you don't want ink on and make sure you do it someplace where you can spread out some newspaper in case you spill some ink. Again... Read the directions. There's usually a special stopper that you need for the particular cartridge your refilling, there are some needles for inserting the ink into the right place and if you don't follow the directions you'll probably regret the mess you made. When you do it right, you'll find that you not only save yourself a bundle on ink, but you'll be able to blaze away on your machine without worrying about how much it's costing you to replace the ink cartridges. Printer buying used to be simple; few choices with even fewer differences in features. More recently, it has turned into a decision-buying circus. Beyond the thousands of printer models out there, there are countless features you will want to look into before you drive away with a new printer. Speed, design, functionality, maintenance, usability, and CPP (cost per page) are only a few of the specs consumers analyze before making a decision. How do you find the wallet-friendly printers? Ink or Toner can be a pretty important factor, depending on the volume you might need to do. Epson or Cannon have generally been the most ink cost friendly. You'll spend a bit more for the printers that sell the cheaper ink consumptions. Most printer descriptions will give you an approximate page yield per cartridge. These will vary from a few hundred to a few thousand pages. You take the cost of the cartridge and divide it by the page yield. For example, a cartridge that costs $30 with a page yield of 1,000 will cost you 3¢ per page ($30/1000)
Posted: May 07,2007 by Don Crandall FREE WIFI or WIRELESS INTERNET HOTSPOTS Most new Laptops are equipped with wireless Internet capability. (you can have an aircard such as D-link installed into your old one) What does WIFI do? It's free internet at your local coffee house, hotel or other location. You can gain access to many FREE OPEN HOTSPOTS now in many areas by clicking on your air capable network connection to get on the Internet free. Some places will require you to get a password to log in and many are free to use. McDonalds and UPS stores charge for the connection and are perhaps a little to proud of the concept for my budget. We are gathering a list of locations that are just glad to have you come in, bring your laptop, have a cup of coffee or something and be a customer. It's a great idea for attracting Tourist traffic to your business. It's easy to set up an airless location. Let us know if you have a FREE OPEN Public WIRELESS or WIFI connection and we'll be happy to list your company name and address on any of our sites! FREE INTERNET TELEPHONE SERVICES: From your PC or on the road with your laptop. New WIFI phones [VOIT] voice over the Internet are capable of making FREE INTERNET PHONE CALLS from your home PC or any WIFI location using SKYPE, YAHOO [Messenger] and many other services. You can make calls free Internet to Internet or dirt cheap to any telephone number in the US (a penny a minute) too. All you need is a headset [the green plug]and a microphone [the red plug] or VOIP phone plugged into your USB [Universal Serial Bus] port on your computer or laptop to take advantage of these new services. New computers have ports located on the front of the Computer along with the Camera Memory Card reader slots. Old computers can be upgraded to create more convenient frontal access to these new plug in features, but quite frankly the cost of new computers might make the cost of a number of upgrades a bit too expensive to mess with.
